WHAT IS SO GREAT ABOUT SALVATION?
Heb 2:1-4
How shall we escape if we neglect so Great Salvation?
If judgement came upon the angels for their words and rebellion how shall we escape      If we don’t get saved If we put it off
Answer is we won’t
I want to talk about our Great Salvation
Salvation is simple Man makes it difficult
Man thinks that the bible is written to all men as being the same
That those in the Old Testament are to follow the same rules that we do in the New Testament    The same with those who will follow us in the time the bible calls the Tribulation     And further the Millennium
Ex 35:1   And Moses gathered all the congregation of the children of Israel together, and said unto them, These are the words which the LORD hath commanded, that ye should do them.
Le 19:37   Therefore shall ye observe all my statutes, and all my judgments, and do them: I am the LORD.
Ps 103:15-18   As for man, his days are as grass: as a flower of the field, so he flourisheth.  16 For the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and the place thereof shall know it no more.  17 But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children's children;  18 To such as keep his covenant, and to those that remember his commandments to do them.
Hab 2:4   Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.

Col 1:19-29   For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;  20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.  21 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled  22 In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:  23 If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;  24 Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church:  25 Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;  26 Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:  27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:  28 Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:  29 Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.
1Pe 1:10-12   Of which salvation the prophets have inquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:  11 Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.  12 Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.
Salvation for us today is said to be a free gift  Not of works
Tit 3:5   Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
Eph 2:8-9   For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:  9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Ro 5:18   Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.
This could not be any clearer Yet religions    Denominations cloud the issue
I want to draw you back to the day of your Salvation
Remember the life before Heartache   misery,  uncertainty, hopelessness
For some a process of time that the Lord was dealing with you
For some a chance meeting  Someone on the street gave you a tract
Reading the bible Tract Radio of TV preacher
There came a point when you asked the Lord to Save you
Whether you read it off the back page of a tract    Or repeated a prayer that someone helped you with   or you just prayed the best way you knew how
 the transaction was done
Some may have been very emotional Some a great relief
Some as a matter of fact   stoic

Some if not many thought to themselves      Is that it
Just believe this and say this        and that is it?
All God requires of you is to believe by faith that what Jesus did on the cross is sufficient to pay for your sins
For by grace are ye saved by faith
Joh 1:12   But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
Salvation is an event not an experience Jn 3
physical birth is an event we celebrate that event each year that passes
It is not an experience    Feeling  ten years later your feeling of that event may be different
The event is a fact Being born again    Is the same thing
An experience is dependent upon you     Salvation is dependent upon God
What seemed to be a casual thing     Praying that God would save you
Believing from your heart     God was very busy doing things for you that you could not do for yourself

These are the “tion” words     Of which modern Christianity knows very little about
This is bible doctrine  Modern Christianity is all into the experience    Not doctrine
They are more interested in unity through emotion and feeling than truth from the scripture
tion words  What are you talking about?

Salvation:  Regeneration Imputation Redemption
Propitiation Justification Reconciliation Adoption
Sanctification Glorification

Each one of these could be a sermon in themselves

My purpose today is to familiarize you with what God was doing in you when you thought nothing was happening when you trusted Christ from your heart

Regeneration  Is the work of the Holy Spirit where God makes alive those that were spiritually dead.

Eph 2:1-6   And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;  2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:  3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.  4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,  5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)  6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
Col 2:13-15   And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;  14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;  15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
Tit 3:4-5   But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,  5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
Reconciliation The restoration of fellowship between two parties which were at odds with each other.     Enmity
Eph 2:15   Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; 16   And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:
Col 1:19-22   For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;  20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.  21 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled  22 In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:
He presents you  You do not present yourself

Redemption Is that act of (paying the price required) to buy back someone in bondage.     To sin
The price?    Sinless blood
Col 1:13-14   Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:  14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
Ac 20:28   Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.
1Pe 1:18-19   Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;  19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

Propitiation Is the means by which Jesus appeased the wrath of God upon us because of our sin satisfying God’s demand for justice.
Sin had to have a payment  Hell is the eternal payment for sin
You either pay it yourself or someone pays it for you
The wrath of God was upon us as a lost sinner
Joh 3:36   He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
1Jo 4:10   Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
Ro 3:24-26   Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:  25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;  26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.
Could be said that Jesus is our substitute he willingly took our place

Imputation Is the means by which guilt or innocence is transferred from one to another.
The guilt of our sin was transferred to Jesus Christ   and the innocence and righteousness of Jesus was transferred to the repentant sinner

Jesus takes our sin  God gives us his righteousness
Abraham is given as an example of imputation
Ro 4:23-24   Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him;  24 But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;
2Co 5:21   For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Justification This is the act whereby God legally declares the sinner righteous, sinless on the merit of Christ, when he took  our sins as his own and receiving our punishment
God is on the bench in the courtroom pronouncing judgement from the bench    Legal act
Ro 3:24   Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
Ro 3:28   Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.
Ro 5:9   Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
Ro 5:18   Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.
For someone to think that we could work our way to heaven is ridiculous

Adoption This is the legal act that God accepts us as his own children when we come to his Son for Salvation
Ga 4:4-7   But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,  5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.  6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.  7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

Sanctification This is the act of separating us from being owned by the Devil to being God’s

Joh 17:17   Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
1Co 6:11   And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
1Co 1:2   Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours:
**** It is also an ongoing process in the believer
2Ti 2:19-20   Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.  20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
2Ti 2:21   If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.
1Co 6:19-20   What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?  20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
Php 1:6   Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

Glorification This is the act of God when he makes us just like his son
Php 3:20-21   For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:  21 Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.
1Co 15:42-43   So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:  43 It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power:
1Co 15:51-58   Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,  52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.  53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.  54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.  55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?  56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.  57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.  58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

All of this takes place the moment we trust Christ

Our Salvation is a great miracle of God

On our part a simple act of faith

On God’s part an act of love securing for us So Great Salvation

What a blessing to know that our God provided for us more than what we could have done for ourselves
