WHY SOUND DOCTRINE?

1Ti 4:1-2

2Ti 4:1-4

I am introducing this subject with a question, Why Sound Doctrine? Because it is just as relevant today as the subject was back in Paul’s day Doctrine is simply, whatever is taught by a group as tenets to be believed

Re 2:14 But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.

Re 2:15 So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate.

So just because we associate doctrine with the bible, it is not necessary the case. As we see in our opening passages there is a contrast We will get back to these vrs later.

Where did this concept of doctrine come from?

De 32:1-4

Who is this written to? To everyone in Heaven and Earth

The doctrine of God will fall gently, evenly as rain and dew upon the creation of God
God’s Doctrine will be known to his creation, and as we have seen there is opposition to the Lord’s doctrine

This doctrine is found in God’s word (Moses mountain)

This doctrine was given to the Jews to dispense to the world, in the form of the Law.

This Law was to confirm what the Lord had already put in their hearts

Ro 2:14-15

But we know from the bible and our own experience and observation that God’s doctrine can be and is rejected

That is why sound doctrine good doctrine must begin early and we see this emphasized by the Lord in his word

Pr 4:1-4

God wants his doctrine started early in fact really early

Isa 28:9 Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.

1Pe 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

Children are unstable and easily swayed. New born Christians are Unstable and easily swayed. Therefore there is a need to grow and become sound in the faith sound in doctrine

To know what you believe and why your believe it and able in a rudimentary level to be able to defend it Therefore the admonition
Eph 4:14

A stronger rebuke is given in Heb 5, You would do well to read it
When Jesus shows up on the scene, he really stirs things up

The religious establishment had become corrupt and added tradition to the doctrine of God

Mr 7:7 Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

They lost sight of what it was all about, the reason for the Law was to reach the heart not for ritualistic adherence

So Jesus warned the people:

Mt 16:11-12

Mr 4:2

Mr 1:27

Lu 4:32

Joh 7:14-17

Jesus was letting the people know that what He was teaching them was from God himself

And that if you will follow the Lord seeking truth, he will let you know the difference between sound doctrine and false doctrine

There is a lot of false doctrine going on out there

1Co 14:26 How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.

Everyone wants to be significant, teachers want a following, to be unique

Back in the 70's when I got saved there were only 3 beliefs of the res of the saints

A-Millennial just a general res at God’s appointed time Mil. Is just a metaphor

Post-Millennial After the Mill. One general res

Pre-Trib A res. of the saints of God before the trib then another res after the Mill.

Now a days there are more teaching of this than I can keep up with
Pre-trib Mid-Trib Post-Trib Pre-Wrath Christians going through the tribulation.

Everyone has a doctrine Preaching the bible from the headlines

Signs and wonders Jews require a sign Not Christians

That is why they are in Mt 24, looking for signs and confirming headlines

The evidence a Christian should be looking for, which shows where we are in relation to the end time is found in II Timothy

1Ti 4:1-7

2Ti 3:1-17

Which leads right into Ch 4

2Ti 4:1-4

You should be looking for a preacher that preaches the word of God

Preach the word not the headlines, not opinions, not conspiracies and theories The admonition given to a preacher any preacher

Tit 1:9 Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

Beware of the Leaven of false doctrine find sound doctrine

The word and the Spirit of God will let you know if it from him or not
