THE HEAVY BURDENS WE MUST CARRY
Sowing and Reaping
Gal 6:1-10
There is something that each of us, as Children of God, will have to
carry. And that is a burden
There are 2 of them here within the passage that we have just read.
This passage warns us about being judgmental against a brother or
sister overtaken in a fault
it says for us to be spiritual and to restore them in a spirit of meekness
It comes with a warning Thinking you are above such foolishness
The Lord may very well put you through the same trial and see how
you fare
as I said there are 2 burdens here The first is found in vs 2
Ga 6:2 (KJV) of Christ.
Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law
Taking on the burden of someone else helping a brother or sister to
get through their burden
financially emotional support physically through prayer
Holding them up Helping them carry their burden
Sometimes it is short term, Sometimes it is long term
The 2nd burden found in this passage is in vs 5
Ga 6:5 (KJV) For every man shall bear his own burden.
There are burdens that must be carried alone
some of these are placed upon an individual purely at the Lord’s
discretion seemingly for no apparent reason
But other burdens are brought about by our own actions
Either form things we have done before we were saved or things we
have done after we are saved
It makes no difference God’s word and his law stands fast
That law is found in the passage we read this morning
Ga 6:7-8 (KJV) Be not deceived; (don’t fool yourself) God is not
mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8 For
he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption;...
This is a burden you will have to face in your Christian life
Most times it doesn’t show up right away God gives a honeymoon
period following Sal.
knowing that you
To enjoy the blessings of your sins being forgiven have received the gift of eternal life
Seeing how much Jesus loved you and the wonder of the Cross
Seeing all the benefits you have in Christ
but eventually the Lord will lay on you the burden of your past life
or the times as a Child of God you stubbornly defied Him and did
things your own way Sowing your wild oats
God will not be mocked What you sow You will reap
Sins of the past will come and haunt you Images you put in your
mind will come back
The affects of Drugs and Alcohol abuse will arise in the mind or in the
body Gaps Gerrie on his tractor so many Acid trips
Troubles as a result of those abuses Organs failing relationships Broken homes Hurting people
Lost family
Troubles because of fornication And adultery many partners
illegitimate births abortions Thefts
These and many others come back and burden you with Guilt, Regret
Sorrow Heartache Pain
All of this is in the past Why am I reliving all of this It is a grief
I thought God took all of this away from me
A common thought when this burden comes hard and heavy, is I must
Did I not say the right words Did my heart not believe
not be saved right
Doubt is very common feelings take over instead of the assurance
of the scriptures
Joh 5:24 (KJV) Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my
word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and
shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
Joh 6:37 (KJV) All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and
him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.
But the Sowing and Reaping laws destination.
abide regardless of your soul’s
Have you ever stopped to think of Paul with this sowing and reaping
thing in mind
You remember what Paul was like before his conversion?
Ac 22:18-20 (KJV) And saw him saying unto me, Make haste, and
get thee quickly out of Jerusalem: for they will not receive thy
testimony concerning me. 19 And I said, Lord, they know that I
imprisoned and beat in every synagogue them that believed on thee:
20 And when the blood of thy martyr Stephen was shed, I also was
standing by, and consenting unto his death, and kept the raiment of
them that slew him. His face was like that of an angel of God
Ac 8:3 (KJV) prison.
As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering
into every house, and haling men and women committed them to
Ac 26:9-11 (KJV) I verily thought with myself, that I ought to do many
things contrary to the name of Jesus of Nazareth. 10 Which thing I
also did in Jerusalem: and many of the saints did I shut up in prison,
having received authority from the chief priests; and when they were
put to death, I gave my voice against them. 11 And I punished them
oft in every synagogue, and compelled them to blaspheme; and being
exceedingly mad against them, I persecuted them even unto strange
cities.
You can’t tell me he didn’t see those faces and hear those screams
long after he had been gloriously saved
Ro 7:24 (KJV) the body of this death?
O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from
David is an example of this law of sowing and reaping
Many of the things that David went through prior to him becoming King
were to prepare him to be King
But once he became King and sinned with Bathsheba he began to
reap what he sowed
As the scripture declared sheep
Out of the mouth of David 4 sheep for a
Remember That for those sins David committed he deserved to Die
But God’s mercy and forgiveness spared David that result but there
was still the reaping for those sins
The Illegitimate child dies One of his sons has an Illicit sexual
relationship with a half sister
The brother of that sister kills the offender
Then Absalom overthrows his own Dad’s kingdom
That son dies David in his grief morns over his son knowing it
was because of his own sin that his son is now
dead
O my son Absalom, my son, my son Absalom! would God I had died
for thee, O Absalom, my son, my son!
All of these events were stretched out over the years
these sorrows were intertwined with David’s victories and blessings
So throughout his life as King with God’s blessings and triumphs there
was grief, aggravation, betrayal, embarrassment, sorrow, regret, anger
This is the life of a Christian today The blessings of Sal and
living for the King of Glory
and the heartaches of reaping for our stupid decisions
How is it that there is an upside to this?
It is found in the passage
Ga 6:7-8 (KJV) Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever
a man soweth, that shall he also reap. 8 For he that soweth to his
flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the
Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.
Now that you are a Child of God You can now sow to the Spirit
By doing so you can reap a better harvest Life everlasting
before you think this is merely Sal Look what follows
Ga 6:9-10 (KJV) And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due
season we shall reap, if we faint not. 10 As we have therefore
opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who
are of the household of faith.
The more we live for God once we are saved reaping we will experience
The more positive
The well doing Is connected to things you do for the Lord
Changing the lifestyle from the old life to the new life in Christ
Then there is what we find in vs 10 let us do good unto all men,
especially unto them who are of the household of faith
It has been my experience that the more I am involved in living for
God
The less I am reaping from my Past It doesn’t take it all away but it
seems to lessen it
I know I deserve far more than what I have or am receiving now
Which is a blessing
I know that some heavy burdens I was carrying seem to be a lot lighter
today
Which is a blessing
Some burdens that came up from my past forced me to deal with them
to talk to God about them and acknowledge them Yes they were
forgiven the moment I trusted Christ
But I never dealt with them
Which is a blessing
These are heavy burdens you must carry yourself cannot help you with these burdens
another person
But you can take it to Jesus He invites you to
Your past is your past But you can hope in the Lord’s mercy
Mt 11:28-30 (KJV) Come unto me, all ye that labour and are
heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you,
and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall
find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden
is light.
He can make the burden lighter
1Pe 5:6-7 (KJV) Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand
of God, that he may exalt you in due time: 7 Casting all your care
upon him; for he careth for you.
Sow to the Spirit Live for God Not half way But all in
Get in the book Participate Don’t be a spectator Get involved
There is hope and forgiveness and mercy with the Lord Jesus
Your Past is Your Past
We will have to reap some sorrows for our burdens here
But we can also reap some blessings here too.
Don’t negate the blessing by focusing solely on the sorrows and
regrets
